Mesothelioma Cancers - An Overview

Mesothelioma Cancer Video

What are Mesothelioma Cancers?

Mesothelioma cancers are the cancers that spread in the mesothelium tissues. Mesothelium in general is the name of tissue that forms lining of different body organs such as heart, lungs, abdomen and reproductive organs. The lining around abdominal organs is known as peritoneal membrane. Lining around lungs is called pleural membrane while the lining around heart is called pericardium. These linings perform two functions. They protect the internal organs by producing a lubricating fluid and to allow the smooth movement of the internal organs.

Recent studies have, however, revealed that exposure to asbestos can have damaging health implication resulting in asbestos disease and mesothelioma for both workers in industries making use of asbestos as well as those who live in the environment surrounding such places. Workers may inhale fine asbestos particles in the air; they also become exposed through skin contact with asbestos or by swallowing asbestos fibers while at work. These workers are vulnerable to asbestos diseases as mesothelioma and asbestosis.

Serious Effects Of Asbestos Disease

Mesothelioma is the most serious of several asbestos-related diseases detected so far. This is because of the carcinogenic effect of asbestos particles. Asbestos can cause cancer of the lungs, esophagus, colon, rectum, stomach, vocal chords, and kidneys. About 70 percent to 80 percent of all cases of asbestos disease mesothelioma - a rare type of cancer of the mesothelium, the membrane that covers and protects most of the body internal organs –are the result of asbestos exposure at work. Asbestos disease mesothelioma may not immediately manifest.

The asbestos particles can lie dormant in the body for several years and manifest later, when the prognosis is very grim. It is possible that by the time the disease is diagnosed, the cancer may have already spread significantly. In view of health concerns all new uses of asbestos in the manufacturing industries have been banned in the United States from July 1989 onward. In particular, the use of asbestos in hand-held hair dryers was voluntarily stopped in
1979. Schools are required to test for use of asbestos roofing and it is removed or covered up.

Compensation To Victims Of Asbestos Disease Mesothelioma

The first case of asbestos disease mesothelioma was filed nearly 70 years ago. Employees in industries with considerable risk of asbestos poisoning are, in principle, eligible for mesothelioma compensation. The compensation is available only for those employees who run the risk of asbestos exposure since the 1940s. Recently, many mesothelioma patients have filed lawsuits for compensation. They have been awarded compensation on the ground that the owners of industries continued to use asbestos despite the information of the health hazards it entails. Currently, help is available to victims of asbestos disease mesothelioma through many specialized legal firms in the United States.

A Step Towards Mesothelioma Cure

The doctors and researchers are looking for answers related to Mesothelioma cure but have not found any. Before we discuss about mesothelioma cure, it is necessary to know about what is mesothelioma and what are its possible causes.

The primary cause of pericardial mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos dust and fibres.  Therefore those at risk are those who are most likely to have inhaled these deadly fibres such as construction workers and asbestos manufacturers.  Those in contact with these people also have a chance of getting pericardial mesothelioma because these people may have asbestos fibres stuck to their clothes or hair.

The symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma change from patient to patient.  Usual symptoms include persistent coughing, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and palpitations.  Other symptoms patients may experience are nausea, weight loss, vomiting and loss of appetite.

Once detected, the chances of survival of an average mesothelioma patient are very bleak. The options for Mesothelioma cure depend upon the different stages of the disease. In the first stage the treatments options depends on factors such as patient’s age, general health, organ affected and the size of tumor.

Surgery is used for mesothelioma treatment and cure in the first stage. The doctors remove the tumor and the nearby tissues with a surgical process. However, the doctors use a combination of surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy if the tumor has witnessed enormous growth. Fluid collection in the chest and abdomen takes place in the advance stages of mesothelioma.

What Is The Prognosis For a mesothelioma cure?

Mesothelioma cure in these stages involves draining of the fluid to reduce discomfort. This process of treatment is known as Thorancentesis or Paracentesis. After this, the doctors use Surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy. Treatment and efforts for mesothelioma cure can suffer a severe jolt if the disease strikes back. In that case, the treatment depends on the location of recurrence, and the patient’s medical history.

This is highly dependent on how early and how aggressively the cancer is treated.  If pericardial mesothelioma is treated when it has fully developed and matured then the chances of a patient’s survival is very small.  The prognosis could be only a couple of months.
Research into cures of pericardial mesothelioma and all other forms of mesothelioma is being done in numerous research labs all over the USA.  Many pharmaceutical companies are also working hard to research new drugs for chemotherapy.  So far, research has been mostly unsuccessful.

Getting Mesothelima Attorneys to Fight Against Lung Cancer

When someone is diagnosed with mesothelioma, they may find that they need an attorney to help them with their case.  This is a disease that is rare, and there is little to be said about the condition.  The rate of this disease is on the increase and there are new mesothelioma attorneys that are trying to settle many cases for different people.  They have stepped in for the rights of the people to help them with their case.

Many victims of this disease need to have mesothelioma attorneys help them with their fight.  These lawyers and law firms will deal with the victims and their families to help them claim the right compensation that they deserve from the companies that are responsible for their problems.  These lawsuits result in a lot of money being won by the families when the right lawyer or firm handles them.

Handling asbestos causes mesothelioma.  This comes from working in an environment that is affected by this deadly material or by someone that is contracted to remove it.  Most of the time, the workers are made clear of the dangers that can be caused by working with this type of material.  However, some employers will allow little or no protection from the material when the employees are handling it.  These workers are entitled to compensation for their work.

Today there are many mesothelioma attorneys to choose from and there are many that are right for you.  Many of these lawyers have dealt with this type of suit in the past and know the correct way to handle it.  Those people that are looking for a lawyer should choose someone with a good history and experience in this type of case.  Most lawyers are happy to provide clients with information that may be helpful in using them for your services.  They will show past cases with the names deleted to show proof of their victory.

You need to be confident in your attorney so that the facts can be presented and the client will have a fair and good case.  In some cases the patients will die before the case is settled.  In these cases, the families of them will be entitled to the remaining settlement.  They will have to live without their family member for the rest of their life due to this terrible form of cancer and they will deserve to be compensated well for that reason.  Mesothelioma attorneys will help them fight for what their loved one wanted so much.  In the end, the money and the settlement cannot make what is wrong turn right.  It is not going to bring back the loved one.  However, it will be telling these companies that they did something wrong and that they did not get away with it.  You will be fighting for rights of the workers and the responsibilities of the employers.

Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma-The Sleeping Dragon

Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma, commonly known as Asbestos Cancer, is a rare form of cancer that is most frequently known to occur when the affected person has come in contact with asbestos and inhaled its particles. It does, however, emerge in some individuals without ever having made contact with asbestos and occurs more in men than women, but can affect both genders.

Of the six types of asbestos, only four are used commercially. These are chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite and anthrophyllite. Of these, crysotile or white asbestos accounts for 99% used in USA.  In it natural state or well contained and maintained in products, asbestos do not pose a real hazard. It is when asbestos is broken down and fibres are released that there is concern.

Asbestos fibres are very thin and sharp. The fibre is 2,000 times thinner than a human hair. It measures under 0.3 microns or one millionth of a millimetre in diameter and five microns in length. It is not visible with the naked eye or through a microscope.

When released, the fibres remain in the atmosphere for a long time and can be carried great distances. When the fibres are inhaled, they stick to the lung tissue and are not expelled by breathing out or coughing. Some remain in the lungs, others gravitate into the pleural lining.

Asbestos exposure can lead to disease and develops over a long period of time. Asbestos related diseases are asbestosis, pleural plaques and lung cancers. The lung cancer can be either cancer of the lung itself or mesothelioma, a cancer of the lung lining. These cancers can take between 20 and 50 years to develop.

Nine Eleven

When the Twin Tower collapsed, there were 400 tons of asbestos in the structure. The toxic cloud that hung over Manhattan, contained high level of asbestos. It is estimated that over 100,000 people suffered asbestos exposure. The greatest exposure was amongst first responders. Deborah Reeve was the first to die from asbestos related disease after 9/11. She was a first responder and paramedic. She died in March 2005 from mesothelioma. This concerned experts because mesothelioma takes a very long time to develop. They concluded that her exposure must have been excessive.

A study result showed that 70% of recovery and rescue workers who were active during and after the World Trade Centre collapse had some form of respiratory problem. A six year follow up study showed that sufferers with respiratory problems continue to have the same ailments. “In the six years since the attacks,” Nadler said, “We have accumulated a mountain of evidence that thousands of those exposed are suffering from chronic respiratory disease and, increasingly, a variety of rare cancers.”

Hopefully, as experts predict, within the next few years asbestos related diseases will peak and the annual new cases will drop. If not, could it be a sleeping dragon about to wake up?

What is Lymphoma

Whenever the word cancer is mentioned, our minds instantly associate it with one of the worst types of diseases people can be diagnosed with. There are many types of cancers. Some cancers start in the lymphatic system like lymphoma. There are actually two types of lymphoma: Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The lymphatic system is made up of lymph nodes, lymphocyte cells, bone marrow of the thymus and long bones, the spleen, tonsils and adenoids as well as the lymph.

Other cancers can also start within the lymph nodes such as breast cancer. However breast cancer symptoms are not the same as lymphoma blood cancers.

The most common of blood cancer types is lymphoma. This is often confused with leukemia, which is another type of blood cancer disease. About 56% of all patients affected with blood cancer have lymphoma

In 1832 Thomas Hodgkin’s discovered the lymphoma blood disease and this is how the disease became known as Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Lymphoma begins when lymphocytes, which are white blood cells, begin to multiply due to malignant changes within the lymph nodes and other areas of the body. When they start to increase to very large numbers they begin pushing out the healthy cells..

It is not only within the lymph nodes that the lymphoma can start. It can also begin within the lymphatic tissues located in the intestines and or stomach. infected cells can move throughout many different areas of the body In the United States, statistically lymphoma in men is the sixth most common cancer and it affects women almost as much. For women it is the fifth most common cancer.

There are two major types of Leukemia: myelogenous and lymphocytic. There are acute and chronic forms of each of these types. Although a great deal of information can be found both on-line and offline about lymphoma, it is always best to seek out medical care if you have any suspicious symptoms. Sadly, there are many different types of cancers. There are several types that affect the blood. Blood cancers that in the bone marrow are not to be confused with bone cancer.

It is always best for anyone that may suspect they have some type of health issues, regardless of the type, to discuss it with their doctor.

Should You Need More Evidence That Smoking Cause Lung Cancer?

Smoking can damage your health. It is unlikely that anyone is unaware of this fact. The media won't let such a thing happen, just take a look at all the anti-smoking advertisements aired every week. The reason of not paying attention to these messages is because of your ignorance. More importantly, you shouldn't assume that. Just because you are under 65 and none in your family has suffered from lung cancer, it doesn't mean that you won't.

Just one cigarette can leave traces on your lungs for more than four weeks. So you don't have to be a frequent smoker. So you can imagine how much damage just one pack of cigarette can do. Sitting on the fence at this late stage is not going to help especially with the consuming evidence that show a firm link between lung cancer and smoking.  Unlike smoking, learning something about the health risks that smoking causes isn't going to hurt you is it? Today, doctors are falling over backwards to help people with a smoking addiction who want to stop before it's too late. Usually you will do something with your health when your health experts inform you about your medical conditions. Unfortunately, many smokers couldn't be bother about these health warnings even though they have been brought to their attentions.

Some individuals just need a scare before they can jump on the smoke-free bandwagon. It seems that it's only when they are informed that they are suffering from lung cancer, they start to take notice of articles on lung cancer. Obviously even having cancer of the throat doesn't prevent certain smokers from smoking. One of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed is a person smoking through the hole cut out of his throat. Although I had witnessed many odd events in my life but the fact is that certain smokers refuse to stop smoking no matter how serious is their health condition.

Smokers may choose to ignore the evidence and the health problem related to smoking. But lung cancer is not going away and it may opt not to ignore you! Any articles on lung cancer, asthma and Bronchitis can confirm that smoking is related to respiratory problems. Lung cancer not only affect the smokers but whoever who inhale their cigarette smoke. If you stop now, you may not be forced to give up smoking later when it could be too late.

The compelling question is how are you going survive when the withdrawal symptoms sneak in? Let that question be answered by Final Smoke, a unique program to help smokers give up smoking for good. The answer is easy to find, don't you think? There are many educated people that can comprehend how this program can assist you attain your objective to become a non-smoker . The point to which I shall call your attention is that find out everything about Final Smoke before you decide.

The Very Serious Malignant Mesothelioma Disease

Mesothelioma Disease Video

Mesothelioma disease is one of the deadliest diseases known to man; the average life span of an inflicted person from the time of diagnosis until death is less than 24 months. It's a disease that strikes approximately 3,000 United States citizens each and every year; hard working people who have labored for a lifetime to provide for their families, doing the work that keeps this country running and a great place to live.

The diseased defined Mesothelium is the protective tissue that covers the chest cavity, abdominal cavity and the cavity around the heart and also produces a special lubricating fluid that allows the internal organs of the body to move around. Malignant Mesothelioma can be defined as the cancer of the mesothelial cells which become abnormal and start dividing without any order. These cells also cover the outer surface of most internal organs. The tissue formed by these cells is called mesothelium. The mesothelium helps protect the organs by producing a special lubricating fluid that allows organs to move around. For example, this fluid makes it easier for the lungs to move inside the chest during breathing. Majority of the mesothelioma patients have a prior history of exposure to asbestos.

The mesothelium of the chest is called the pleura and the mesothelium of the abdomen is known as the peritoneum. The mesothelium of the pericardial cavity (the "sac-like" space around the heart) is called the pericardium Tumors of the mesothelium can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). A malignant tumor of the mesothelium is called a malignant mesothelioma. Because most mesothelial tumors are cancerous, malignant mesothelioma is often simply called mesothelioma. Mesothelioma was recognized as a tumor of the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium in the late 1700's.

The incidence of mesothelioma in the United States remains very low, with 14 cases occurring per million people per year. Despite these numbers the noticed threefold increase in mesothelioma in males between 1970 and 1984, is directly associated with environmental and occupational exposure to asbestos, mostly in areas of asbestos product plants and shipbuilding facilities. Although the disease is much more commonly seen in 60-year old men, it has been described in women and early childhood as well.

Diagnosis

After the initial X-rays and scans, the doctor may look inside the chest cavity (in case of pleural tumor) with an instrument called thoracoscope and the test is called thoracoscopy. In case of tumor in peritoneum the doctor may go for peritoneoscopy with the help of a tool called peritoneoscope. Finally, if the abnormal tissue is found then a biopsy is done, whereby a piece of the unnatural tissue is cut out and placed under microscope for examination. After the confirmed diagnosis of Mesothelioma it is also essential to ascertain its stages i.e. whether it is in localized stage or in advanced stage.Depending on the stage of the cancer, its location and the health, age and medical history of the patient, 3 types of treatments are mated out to malignant Mesothelioma patients – surgery (to remove the tumor), radiation therapy (application of high energy rays) and chemotherapy (usage of combination of drugs). This apart, if there is any accumulation of fluid in the chest or abdomen, then the doctor needs to drain it out and the process is regarded as thoracentesis and paracentesis respectively. So be aware of the disease, such that you can prevent it at the very onset.

Basic Information On Prostate Cancer

If you have had a brush with the disease in any form either personally or through someone you know, you must be aware that cancer is a frightening term. Prostate cancer affects the prostate gland which is found only in males.

While it is vital that everybody should know about all the cancers, it does happen that sometimes people just don’t bother thinking that it will never happen to them. But if you are educated on the subject, then you will know what to look out for in case you get the illness. Prostate cancer can be easily diagnosed and treated. Once you are aware of the symptoms of prostate cancer you will be in a position to catch it faster – if you do happen to get it.
.
A Comprehensive Look At Prostate Cancer

There is a great deal of information on prostate cancer and the more you know about prostate cancer the better you will be able to deal with it.

Firstly as the prostate gland is only found in males and is part of the male reproductive system, men have to be all the more careful. The prostate gland is a walnut sized gland at the neck of the bladder and it contributes to seminal fluid. So it aids in reproduction and if it gets enlarged, it can cause urinary problems.

Once you know what the prostate gland is, where it is located and what are the symptoms it can cause if it gets enlarged, you will know what to look for if you face any problems. Among early signs of prostate cancer are urinary complaints. If you have difficulty in passing urine with force or get incontinent then you need to have your prostate gland examined by the doctor.

Rarely it may happen that there are no noticeable signs of prostate gland enlargement and it is then that a person can actually get metastatic prostate cancer. In such a scenario the prostate cancer can spread to different parts of the body and reaches an advanced stage where it becomes difficult to treat.

Sometimes urinary problems, too, can be misdiagnosed because many other diseases and illnesses can lead to urinary problems, so it is all the more important to rule out prostate cancer.

When Prostate Cancer Spreads

When prostate cancer spread it is called metastatic prostate cancer. It can spread to the lymph nodes, bones and other places. Unfortunately at an advanced state, metastatic prostate cancer is incurable.

It is therefore of utmost importance that prostate cancer be caught at an early stage before it spreads from a localized tumor. Once the cancer escapes from the site, it can slowly or quickly cause cancers in other parts of the body, including the bones.

How do you know that you are risk of developing prostate cancer? If you have a family history of the disease then you are more susceptible to developing it. But if you are aware of the family history it also means that you will keep a watch on early signs and symptoms so that you can be more easily treated. Remember, early treatment can save your life.

How Does Chemotherapy Administered to the Body

Chemotherapy treatment means treating cancer with a chemical much like we treat an infection with Penicillin. Almost everyone has heard horrible stories about the side effects of chemo, and the reality is that it is not a pleasant experience. But, people can survive and have a normal life after cancer - whether they went chemo or not. Chemotherapy is the usual mode of treatment after surgery. Being a systemic treatment, it attacks young and small clusters of cancer cells anywhere in the body. Chemotherapy treatment uses medicines, hormones, or biological agents to fight cancer. Chemotherapy treatments are given in different ways: it can be given orally, by injection into a muscle, by injection into a vein, or by injection into a catheter (a device which is attached to a major blood vessel).

Chemotherapy Treatments are often given in cycles; a treatment for a period of time, followed by a recovery period, then another treatment. Chemotherapy may be given in a variety of settings including your home, a hospital outpatient facility, a physician's office or clinic. Chemo conjures up thoughts of treatments that cause horrible side affects like the so called Chemotherapy Nausea. It often leaves the patient feeling worse than if they had no treatments at all. Advances in the chemotherapy treatment administration and the medicines used itself reduces the ill effects of common chemo. Some of the unpleasant side effects of chemo have been reduced.

Chemotherapy involves the use of several drugs or a single drug that is either injected into a vein, into a body cavity, or taken in as a pill. Chemotherapy can target cancer cells that have spread to the other parts of the body unlike surgery or radiation therapy. Cancerous cells are rogue cells. they morph from normal cells and then multiply in a random, out-of-control fashion. Chemotherapy is meant to destroy those cells that have been left behind by surgery.

Recognizing The Symptoms Of Prostate Problems

Strange as it may appear for years most men knew very little about their prostate gland and it is only in recent years as prostate cancer has become such a prominent issue that men are beginning to ask what the prostate gland is and what it does.

The prostate gland is an important part of the male reproductive system that manufactures a clear fluid that makes up a substantial portion of male seminal fluid. Sperm is taken from the testicles up to the prostate gland where it is mixed with proteins and prostatic fluid to make semen.

A healthy prostate is roughly the size of a walnut, weighs approximately one ounce and is situated just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It is also often described as being shaped like a donut and partly wraps around the urethra, which carries urine out of the body from the bladder.

Throughout a man's life the prostate gland grows, although from the age of about twenty until the mid-forties this growth is very slow and is more or less undetectable. When a man passes approximately forty-five however it is common for the growth of the prostate to speed up and the vast majority of men will start to experience the symptoms of an enlarged gland in their forties or fifties.

In many cases a growing gland produces little more than some mild discomfort which many men choose to learn to live with. In some cases however the prostate can become sufficiently enlarged so that it squeezes the urethra enough to produce various symptoms which need treatment or persuade a man to seek treatment to ease his discomfort. Growth of the prostate at this point in a man's life is simply a normal part of aging and is called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BHP.

In all cases however the biggest problem with an enlarged prostate gland is that the problem might be something more than a simple case of enlargement and might be effectively masking the growth of an underlying cancer.

As the prostate starts to grow it also begins to press on the urethra and to narrow this particular tube so that the first prostate symptoms are normally seen when it comes to urinating. Specifically you may experience difficulty in passing water and need to 'push' to start the process. You might also experience a weak flow in your urine and one which has a tendency to stop and start. As time goes on you will also find that you have to visit the bathroom more often, particularly at night, and that you feel as if you need to visit the bathroom even just after you have just done so.

As you can imagine this can become something of an annoyance to say the least but but, nonetheless, many men are happy to merely put it down as one of the difficulties of aging and learn to live with it. There is nothing wrong with this of course but the mistake which all too many men make is to choose not to seek the advice of their doctor at this stage to ensure that the problem is only BPH and that it is not likely to lead to other problems in their particular case.

Apart from the clear risk of the possibility of an underlying cancer, BPH can also cause other difficulties such as kidney disease or bladder infection.

Should you start to experience symptoms that point to developing prostate problems then call in on your doctor so that the problem can be properly diagnosed.

Breast Cancer Symptoms You Want to Know About

Breast cancer symptoms vary, and may not be the same from person to person. You may experience some, or even none or all of the common symptoms. This is why it's important to get checked out by a doctor promptly if you suspect you may be experiencing breast cancer symptoms, or have any questions about your breast cancer symptoms.

There are a variety of breast cancer symptoms, such as bloody or clear leakage from the nipple, that may happen if a palpable lump is forming. Some women may also experience a deforming change in the size or shape of the breast or nipple. This can be in the form of dimpling or other such indentations.

Many times, actual breast cancer symptoms are mistaken for events that occur naturally in the breast. At some points in a woman's menstrual cycle, for example, her breasts can swell and become sore. This is a normal event that is due to hormone fluctuations and not necessarily a sign of cancer in the breast. You should visit your doctor to be on the safe side, however, the first time you experience swelling or soreness.

Most people know that lumps can be an early sign of breast cancer. If you find a lump, schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. Lumps that are in fact cancerous, usually feel firm with a bit of give like chewing gum. Lumps do not usually cause pain. If they do, they are usually cysts. The most common area in which to find a lump is under the nipple of on the outer part of the breast near the underarm area.

You need to recognize that not every lump on the breast is a sign of cancer. Many women have breasts that naturally have fibrous areas or lumps. If this is true for you, then talk to your doctor to determine a way to test yourself. Recent studies have shown that most lumps will not be detected during self-examination, because they are too small to be felt or are too far below the surface of the skin.

Symptoms of advanced breast cancer include sores on the skin, pain in the breast bone or elsewhere in the chest, a swelling and sore arm on the same side as the cancer, and reduced appetite. Cancer that has gone this far without treatment will be difficult to manage. You will get the best breast cancer information from your doctor, so you need to tell him or her immediately if any new symptoms appear or if existing ones get worse. There may be weight loss and a loss of appetite as well. As breast cancer moves into these stages, treatment becomes more and more difficult. The finest diagnosis and breast cancer information is going to be what your doctor tells you. Consequently, be sure to talk over anything which may seem different about your health and discuss your current breast cancer symptoms with your doctor just as soon as you become aware of them.

Probiotics - The Beneficial Flora Positively Essential For Superlative Health

The first thing you may be wondering is what exactly are probiotics?. Inside your intestinal tract are trillions of microorganisms. They are highly beneficial flora with an astounding job. In simple terms, these microscopic bacteria are the superman-like microorganisms of our bodies. They keep the bad bacteria at bay.

In order to be classified as probiotics they must be able to sabatoge the bad bacterias attempts at overwhelming our bodies, and basically turn the disease-causing pathogenic bacteria into harmless bacteria. We truly need to understand their needs so that they can keep up with the constant bombarding of dreadful bacteria growing inside our body.

This is certainly not a smooth-sailing venture keeping our friendly bacteria healthy and multiplying faster than the bad bacteria. In todays world full of junk food, genetically altered and highly processed foods as well as the nutritionally used up soil that our fruits and vegetables are grown in, it's becoming quite burdonsome for our bodies to maintain an environment that helps our friendly bacteria grow faster than those nasty ones.

It's time to uncover how we can make sure our bodies are flourishing in healthy probiotic bacteria? First, let's consider some of the jobs that they can perform when they are flourishing inside us.

Healthy bacteria will filter out and eliminate damaging substances like those bad bacteria. They help to flush out toxins and chemicals. Some of which are caused by those naughty microorganisums. They also help eliminate other waste products and prevent these same products from being absorbed into our blood stream where they can reek even more deadly damage on our other vital organs.

In addition to those things, a healthy intestinal tract, complements of our healthy flora, will absorb and distribute essential ingredients, that are sent down into our intestines via food and water. All these things are absorbed and then distributed into our cells that need them.

Right now, there are human studies being conducted to see how much probiotics can help in the prevention of cancer. Imagine the difference it would make when something like breast cancer symptoms could be handled with probiotic treatments instead of radiation or chemotherapy.

Perhaps you're starting to get the full picture and want to know how to introduce probiotics into your system. You may be happy to know that introducing probiotics into your body can be as simple as purchasing yogurt that contains active live cultures. You may even have heard about Lactobacillus bulgaricus. This is one of the many wonderful probiotic bacteria that make up the healthy flora and fauna inside our intestinal tract. And there are quite a few varieties found in many of yogurt brands.

Another way to aid our intestinal tract is by way of exercise. Even something like the gentle stretching as in the Supreme Pilate's type movements will benefit our digestive tract in pushing out toxins and waste and this of course aids in and lessons the burdens placed on the good microorganisms whos job is to also get rid of toxic waste build up.

You can learn more about probiotics at your local health food store. You can also keep coming back here to learn more about the wonderful benefits of probiotics.

A Breakdown on Mesothelioma

For practical purposes, so, HSE does not make the presumption that any such edge exists. People who work with asbestos wear non-public shielding plant to lower their risk of exposure. The risk of asbestos-related sickness increases with heavier exposure to asbestos and longer exposure time. On the other hand, not all staff who are heavily exposed develop asbestos-related illnesses. At some time during our childhood we've all been told to eat our plants.

Diet is typically an overlooked subject for cancer patients, but eating the right nutritive foods for strength and energy is just as critical as taking the right drugs. Mesothelioma patients undergoing treatment must follow a special cancer diet made by their diet experts. Cancer diets involve eating the correct amounts of protein and calories and drinking the correct quantity of water to keep the hurting body replenished and energized. The body wishes heaps of nourishment when it is going through chemical treatment or perhaps when the patient is taking certain drugs. Also, those that are undergoing mesothelioma treatment may select not to eat thanks to the worrying complications they may experience. Other complications of mesothelioma treatment include revulsion, puking, dry mouth, a change in the sense of smell or taste, and / or constipation. On the other hand, not all staff who are heavily exposed develop asbestos-related sicknesses. This risk could be the result of exposure to asbestos dust brought home on the clothing and hair of asbestos workers. To reduce the possibility of exposing relations to asbestos fibers, asbestos staff are typically wanted to rain and change their clothing before leaving the workplace.

The Kent brand of cigarettes used asbestos in its filters for the initial few years of production in the 1950s and some cases of mesothelioma have resulted. Smoking current cigarettes does not appear to increase the danger of mesothelioma. Close monitoring ( routine X-rays or pleural biopsy ) for mesothelioma is remitted. Oxygen care at home is commonly needed to relieve the shortness of breath.

Mesothelioma Asbestos Lung Cancer

Tragically the mesothelioma asbestos lung cancer is becoming more and more well known, the mere mention of it striking fear into all of us for we know that it is associated with death.  Asbestos is the reaper, mesothelioma its hand maiden.  Asbestos, the wonder product of the fifties is now recognized as an enemy of the twentieth century.

The next most common form of mesothelioma is peritoneal mesothelioma and this is where cancerous cells grow on the peritoneum which is the lining of the abdomen.  Pericardial mesothelioma, the least common major form of mesothelioma, makes up roughly 5% of all mesothelioma cases.  This is where malignant cancer cells grow on the lining of the heart. All three of these forms of mesothelioma are caused by asbestos.

Records show that there are a higher number of people afflicted with asbestosis and mesothelioma who have directly worked in asbestos mines, ship yards and companies making products from asbestos; however there are a large number of people afflicted, who have never worked in these industries.  Their contact with asbestos, due to the dust brought home on their husband’s clothes or from the asbestos tailings placed around mine houses and town perimeters.  But the tragedy does not end there, children innocently playing in their own back yards played amongst the asbestos tailings as children elsewhere play in the sand.  They had no way of knowing that their sand was asbestos blue.  A good bath at the end of the day may have removed the dust from the skin but the dust in the lungs remained and would lay dormant for many years before claiming its deadly legacy.

It is also known that family members of workers exposed to asbestos can contract this disease through exposure to the workers clothing. Smoking greatly increases the risk of contracting mesothelioma. Some of the earliest symptoms of mesothelioma can often be mistaken for less serious illness and are commonly overlooked. Some patients do not show any signs of sickness in the early stages of development of the disease. Most commonly the symptoms include dyspnea, pleuritic pain, lasting cough, fatigue, and weight loss.

This disease is more common in men. Most cases of mesothelioma occur 30-45 years after initial exposure to asbestos. Once it develops, this cancer will continue to grow until it is treated. It is very important that the disease is diagnosed and treated as early as possible.
Working with asbestos is the major risk factor for mesothelioma. A history of asbestos exposure at work is reported in about 70 percent to 80 percent of all cases. However, mesothelioma has been reported in some individuals without any known exposure to asbestos.

There are a few treatments for all types of mesothelioma but none of these have a high success rate.  The effectiveness of the treatment depends on how early and how aggressively the cancer is treated.  If the cancerous cells are treated when they have fully matured and developed then it is unlikely that treatment methods will be successful.

Why is there such a long period of time between inhalation of asbestos dust and onset of the disease?  What triggers a strong healthy body to suddenly succumb to it?  What can we do to prevent this from happening? Blood tests are now available to determine whether mesothelioma is present in the body, before a person is aware of any symptoms.  This is an amazing breakthrough and perhaps the first step towards curing the disease before it becomes terminal.

My husband was a strong and virile man who rarely had a sick day in his life.  Suddenly at the age of 52 he became short of breath and was subsequently diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.  He had lived in the asbestos mining town of Wittenoom in Western Australia for a few short months at the age of seven.  The asbestos dust he inhaled then, took forty five years to become lethal.  I still find this hard to believe. Despite his prognosis of three to nine months, Brian survived for two years.  He was 54 years old when he died.

The Risks Of Mesothelioma Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos is the biggest work place killer today.  Those who have worked with asbestos or who are regularly in contact with someone who has are at risk from asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.  All these are fatal respiratory diseases which are extremely difficult to cure.

Research is being carried out in various research labs all over the USA and many pharmaceutical companies are also endeavouring to find new drugs and treatment methods. One rare disease caused by asbestos which is becoming increasingly common is mesothelioma.  Although unknown by many today, it is almost certain that awareness of this disease will be broadcasted worldwide because of its increasing occurrence in men aged between 55 and 70.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer of the Pleura (lung cancer) and Peritoneum (abdomen cancer). Mesothelioma has been shown to have a strong association with the crocidolite variety of asbestos. Pleural mesothelioma, the most common manifestation of asbestos exposure, is well-circumscribed plaques of dense collagen, often containing calcium. Peritoneum Mesothelioma may or may not contain asbestos bodies and rarely do they occur in persons who have no history or evidence of asbestos exposure.

The latency period (amount of time the disease takes to start taking effect) of mesothelioma is 30 - 50 years which is one of the reasons it is so difficult to cure because it is very difficult to tackle in its early stages.  Another reason it is so difficult to cure is that its early symptoms are characteristic of many other more common diseases such as pneumonia.

The risk of Mesothelioma is reported to be high in those cases where occupational exposure to asbestos is combined with cigarette smoking. Mesothelioma usually does not appear until after 5 to 10 years of exposure. Mesothelioma causes mechanical irritation and in the advanced cases, there may be symptoms of clubbing of fingers, and cardiac distress. The survival time of Mesothelioma patients is generally ranges from 12 months to 2 years of diagnosis and very few survive longer than 2 years. The following measures can be useful in preventing occurrences of Mesothelioma.

There are no safe levels of asbestos exposure and even short-term exposure to asbestos creates a possibility of your catching any disease caused by asbestos.

Removing Asbestos From Home

It is not advisable to perform an asbestos test in your home. You need qualified professional to test the presence of asbestos in your home. Asbestos abatement is the process of determining the status of asbestos material and taking corrective measures for preventing risk of asbestos exposure. It is not necessary that you have to remove all the asbestos material from your home. You can also opt for economic measures such as enclosures and encapsulation for preventing the risk of asbestos exposure even without removing the Asbestos Containing Materials.

Are You At Risk- Asbestos Related Disease

Asbestsos Related Disease

Asbestos related disease is anwerable for thirty deaths per day, or ten thousand deaths a year. Asbestos illnesses kill thousands more folk than other sorts of cancers that get much more attention from the govt. And pharmaceutical operations. Also, all asbestos exposed persons should stop smoking as smoking can compound the aftermath of asbestos, skyrocketing the chance of developing an asbestos related illness. Smokers have a noticeably higher risk of contracting an asbestos related illness than non-smokers.

Up to one in one hundred men over the age of forty in this country will develop a malicious asbestos related illness, as well as a rising number of ladies. Thus , even employees who did not work without delay with asbestos, but worked in the "breathing area "of its use or removal run the danger of developing an asbestos related illness. However the most prevalent asbestos related illness is benign pleural illness.

It probably goes without saying that the health risks of exposure to loose asbestos fibres have been known in Europe and elsewhere for a considerably long time. Often, a long period of time elapses between exposure to the toxin and diagnosis of a related illness. Sometimes, as in the case of cancer, several decades may pass before the cancer appears.

Have You Been Exposed to Asbestos?

Asbestos related diseases commonly affect people who worked for long periods of time in professions where asbestos was used, as well as their families (due to secondary asbestos exposure). Potential mesothelioma asbestos exposure can also occur at schools, homes and public buildings if asbestos products have fallen into disrepair or become damaged. Even some unpaved roads may be covered with asbestos–containing serpentine.

A number of jobsites, ranging from shipyards to chemical and power plants to grease refineries, bear a history of asbestos exposure. If you suspect you have been exposed to asbestos and have developed mesothelioma you must seek mesothelioma law firms for more info on how it's possible for you to recieve compensation.

Public awareness about the superiority of asbestos-related illness and the perils of asbestos exposure should be better documented. There should be a re-emphasis on the necessity to reduce health hazards for men and girls who may be exposed occupationally to asbestos.

The sicknesses due to asbestos don't appear till fifteen to forty years after your first exposure. This is named the "latency period." Even if you feel healthy whilst you are working with asbestos, you'll get sick several years after. Asbestos related illness exposure is still an important provider of illness. However, millions of Americans who have just been exposed to asbestos will continue to suffer from its effects.

What Others Won't Tell You About Breast Cancer

Breast cancer chances is believed to reduce with the number of biological children a woman has. This is so because it is believed that nursing reduces the chances of abnormal growth within the breast. So it is advised that women should breast feed their children when they have them.

The treatment of breast cancer can be surgical, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The advised type is subjected to the nature of the disease. There are cases when a combination of these treatments is required as in the case of metastasis. Speak to professionals before receiving any form of breast cancer treatment. And most importantly – stay open and believe that you can survive the various forms of treatment that will be given to you. You will be surprised how effective this can be. Seriously! You can read more about breast cancer detection here.

It doesn’t matter whether breast cancer has affected your mother and grandmother and they both died from it, you don’t have to die from it too. You see, modern science has advanced so strongly that the diseases that used to kill people in the past no longer kill. If your breast cancer is discovered very early on, you can be sure you won’t die. So, always ensure you examine your breasts for any signs of tumor. That can save your life.

Anytime you notice any kind of growth in your breasts, as a woman or a man, it's important to carefully examine it. If you are not comfortable with the way it looks, see your doctor immediately. You doctor would then conduct a test for breast cancer. If it's discovered in good time, there's a very high probability that it can be effectively nipped in the bud.

Targeted therapy is a way of treating breast cancer. This type of treatment involves the use of monoclonal antibodies to battle an excessive abundance of HER2 protein in cancerous cells thereby reducing the growth of the cancerous cells in the process. If used with chemotherapy, this reduces the chance of cancer cells relapsing.

Small cells cancer is the type of breast cancer that characterized small tumor cells. These small cells develop rapidly and can spread pretty quickly over the breast and nearby regions. This has further emphasized the need for clinical breast cancer examination. Find more information about breast cancer here.

The food you eat and your nutrient supply is important when breast cancer risk is measured. If you eat more of food with preservatives and artificial additives, your breast cancer chances will be high. So when you can, stay away from junk foods and eat more of fresh foods.

Breast cancer is usually characterized with changes in the size of the breast. However a drastic change in your breast size does not necessarily confirm the presence of cancer cells. If you notice differences in your breast size, it is advised that you seek medical attention to determine the cause.

A lot of women want to know the effect of our diet on the development of breast cancer. I’ll say since our body can be physically and genetically modified by the kind of food we eat, it is logical to believe that food plays an important role in the development of breast cancer. With this being said, you should remember that one man’s meat is another’s poison so have your doctor review your diet for it is only him/her that can say if the kind of food you eat can encourage the development of breast cancer or not. Find more hints about timely noticed breast cancer here.

Some women exercise denial of breast cancer as if they are exempted from having the disease. You must understand that no matter how you much you deny the disease, it won't make it go away ones it is there. You have to start paying attention to advises and tips on how to prevent, cope with and treat breast cancer as nobody is actually exempted from the disease.

Have you being eating vegetables regularly? If not, you may want to reconsider the kind of food you eat as although it is not fully proven, vegetables are believed to prevent the development of breast cancer. What do you think? Still no vegetables?

Although occasionally found in men, breast cancer is most common in women. The statistic shows a ratio of 1:100 for men: women diagnosed cases of breast cancer. This shows that women are more endangered to breast cancer, but most importantly, this has shown that men too can develop breast cancer; therefore they should also check their risk factors and speak occasionally to their doctor concerning breast cancer.

There are high possibilities for breast cancer to spread around to other part of the body before it is detected. This makes the breast cancer difficult to treat and increases the chances of reoccurrence. This is why regular self examination and occasional clinical examination is suggested, to reveal breast cancer timely while the damage is minimal.

Breast cancer cannot be pinned to any cause as at present. This has made the prevention of breast cancer almost impossible as we don't actually know the things to stay away from. You can reduce the risk of breast cancer however by boosting your body's immune system, eating leafy vegetable, fresh fruits and whole grain foods are ways by which you can boost your immune system.

The general state of your body is a factor in the determination of the risk you face regarding breast cancer. Maintaining a state of good health will help lower the risk you stand of developing breast cancer. You should involve in activities like exercise, yoga, walking or Tai-Chi to help keep your health in good shape.

How Asbestos Causes Lung Cancer

pathology services

There are several diseases that can cause death or extreme health damage if it is detected too late. Most diseases can be diagnosed and predicted if the patient is treated at once and if the doctors are informed about extended exposure of the patient to asbestos. Asbestos lung disease is prevalent nowadays since the victims often breathe in the tiny fibers of the asbestos mineral.

The microscopic particles of the asbestos mineral are so small that one needs to use a microscope to get to see them. They are so many times smaller and thinner than our hair! These fibers have two ways of entering the body - through the mouth or through the nose. The most common consequence of excessive exposure to asbestos is asbestos lung disease since they are often inhaled.

Looking at the asbestos particles in a microscope you will discover that these fibers all have razor sharp edges. These particles can damage the tissues especially if there are so many of these are already in your body.

Research show that asbestos is one of the primary causes for lung cancer deaths. It is pretty difficult to detect this disease though, especially if the patient smokes cigarettes. The disease is double deadly when it is an asbestos lung disease and the victim is a smoker.

Cancer diseases caused by asbestos take 2 to 4 decades before they become completely harmful. This latency period is common in asbestos lung diseases. Other asbestos-related diseases like the asbestosis, which is prevalent, often manifests in pleural thickening in the lungs and are therefore easily detected.

Mesothelioma is another kind of disease caused by breathing in asbestos fibers. It occurs when so many asbestos fibers have already accumulated in the stomach or lungs of an exposed individual. A person diagnosed of mesothelioma lives at most for 18 months after they are detected with this disease.

For people who suffer from asbestos lung diseases, what they need is professional medical and legal advice to help them get the finances they need for the medical treatment.

Cancer of the Penis the Truth, Signs, Symptoms and Diagnosis

Cancer is a big worry for many people. It is estimated now that at least 300,000 people a year are now diagnosed with every year in the UK. The most common forms of cancer are breast, lung, colon and prostate cancer. Cancer of the penis is much rarer.

In Britain around 400 men a year are diagnosed with cancer of the penis and it mostly affects men who are 60 of age or older. It is more common in South East Asia and Africa.

Causes

The research into penis cancer is not very advanced and not much is known about it. Cancer of the penis is related to general hygiene and if noted to be less common in males who have been circumcised. The reason being that men who haven’t had their foreskin removed will find it much harder to pull back their foreskin to clean thoroughly underneath. The human papilloma virus human (HPV) that causes penile warts also increases the risk of cancer of the penis.

Cancer of the penis is not hereditary and so other members of the family are not likely to develop it. Cancer of the penis is not contagious either.

It is vital to keep a check on penis health because some skin conditions can develop into cancer if left unchecked and untreated. Please check for white patches, red scaly patches and red moist patches of skin on your penis.

Signs and symptoms

The first signs penile cancer is most likely to be changes in the color and thickness of the skin of the penis. This can lead to symptoms that may include growth or sores on the penis which will usually be around the head of the penis or on the shaft. This can lead to discharge or bleeding. Most penile cancers are painless.

It is vital as with most cancers to have an early diagnosis and therefore gain treatment quickly to bring about a positive outcome. Cancers can sometimes appear as flat growths that are blue-brownish in colour, or as a red rash, or small crusty bumps. It is vital to pull back the foreskin regularly to check because often it is the only time these symptoms are visible.

At this point that we must say that other illnesses than cancer can bring about these conditions however if you have any of these symptoms please visit you doctor or health specialist straight away.

Diagnosis

If you go to your doctor with any suspicious symptoms your doctor will examine you then if feel it is prudent will refer you to a hospital specialist for advice and treatment.

The specialist will examine the whole of the penis and the lymph nodes in your groin. If the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes may be enlarged. To make a firm diagnosis, the doctor will take a sample of tissue (a biopsy) from any sore or abnormal areas on the penis. This will usually be done under a local anesthetic so that the area is numb. The biopsies will be examined under a microscope.

If the biopsy comes back positive for cancer then to assess the seriousness most doctors will do more test to make sure the cancer hasn’t spread into the body.

Cancer spreads through the blood of through the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is part of the body’s defense against infection and disease. It works as a network of lymph glands linked by fine ducts containing lymph fluid. Tests will be done and then it is possible to determine the best method of treatment.

Other tests include:-

Chest x-ray A chest x-ray is usually done to check whether or not the cancer has spread to the lungs.

CT (computerized tomography) scan A CT scan is a specialized type of x-ray. A series of pictures is taken and fed into a computer to build up a detailed picture of the inside of the body. The scan can show whether or not the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. It is painless and takes 10–30 minutes.

Lymph node biopsy If you have any enlarged lymph nodes in the groin, your doctor may put a needle into the node to get a sample of cells. This is to see whether or not the enlargement is due to cancer. Enlarged lymph nodes are often due to infection and not cancer, so your doctor may also give you a course of antibiotics to see whether or not the swollen nodes shrink. 7 Prostate Symptoms That All Men Have To Watch For

Almost all men run into prostate problems of some description as they get older, with signs of trouble appearing for a few men at about 50 years of age or possibly a little earlier. By 60 years of age about half of all men will have prostate gland symptoms and this figure will rise to nearly ninety percent by 80 years of age.

In most cases prostate symptoms will be fairly mild and, as many of us begin to develop a range of medical problems at this point in life, it is not uncommon for men to merely ignore any symptoms as nothing more than a normal part of the ageing process. As a lot of prostate problems are not serious, and the symptoms can frequently be very mild, this may not be too much of a problem and you can live quite happily with many prostate problems without them doing you any particular harm.

But, not all prostate problems are harmless and if your prostate problem happens to be prostate cancer and you do not do something about it then it will start to spread and could well eventually kill you. In fact, ignoring prostate symptoms is the chief reason why prostate cancer represents the second highest cause of cancer death for men the United States.

There are a number of symptoms that could point to the existence of a prostate problem and one difficulty we have in recognizing the root cause of these symptoms is that they are generally symptoms which could appear for many different reasons. However, if your symptoms are not being caused by a prostate problem then they will normally to be short lived and clear up in a few days without the need for intervention. However, where symptoms stay with you then there is a fair chance that they are being caused by a problem with the prostate gland.

Common symptoms are:

  • Difficulty beginning urination and having to strain in order to initiate urination.
  • A weak flow of urine.
  • A flow of urine that has a tendency to start and stop.
  • A feeling that you need to urinate even just after you have done so.
  • A need to urinate urgently and problems in 'waiting'.
  • A requirement to urinate more frequently and a need to get up to urinate during the night.
  • A tendency to continue dribbling urine for a while after you have finished urinating.

These symptoms indicate that prostate problems might be developing and although, in the majority of cases, such problems will not be serious this is not necessarily the case.

For this reason, as soon as these symptoms appear, you need to see your doctor who can tell you exactly what the problem is and how to go about treating it. Most importantly, should the problem turn out to be prostate cancer, he will be able recommend a course of treatment while it is in its early stages and can be reasonably easily treated and, hopefully, removed altogether. The prostate gland may be a small organ but it kills many thousands of men every year so take the time to think about your prostate health.

How to Approach Life After Cancer of the Penis

After cancer of the penis the need of support depends on many individual criteria from the type of treatment you received to the type of person you are. In the case of radiotherapy there are side effects that can cause problems with gaining and maintaining an erection. This can be tough and when paired with the possibility of not being able to pass urine as before can be mentally challenging. In most instances you will be informed of all possible side effects before treatment takes place.

You must be upfront and truthful about the emotions you are experiencing. It is a very tough time and sharing you feelings with others will help you cope. The type of emotions people feel are anger, guilt, fear and anxiety. This can lead to you feeling tearful (without knowing really why), restlessness and losing the ability to sleep. This will all be natural and is how the body reacts and tries to cope. The feeling of desperation and hopelessness will pass eventually. The only way is to talk through them however hard they maybe. It is important to remember there are many people in the same position and that there are support groups out there.

You do not have to cope with these feelings on your own; there are people available to help you. Some hospitals have their own emotional-support services with specially trained staff, and some of the nurses on the ward will have received training in counseling. You may feel more comfortable talking to a counselor outside the hospital environment or to a religious leader.

Life after Penile Cancer

The most common question is will I ever be able to have sex again? The answer is in the majority of cases penile cancer will not affect your ability to have sex. There are some instances when though when the penis or part of the penis has been removed will affect sex life. This thought very distressing can be overcome through counseling and time.

Your abiltiy to overcome any emotional problems is dependant on you being able to talk about your feelings and your perceptions in a change of relationship. This can be difficult and there is trained counseling and support out there. If there are problems then contact your doctor who can help or point your towards some place that can such as a counselor or a nurse. Cancer of the Penis - Staging, Grading and Treatment

The staging of a cancer is a term used to describe its size and whether or not it has spread beyond its original site. Knowing the particular type and the stage of the cancer helps the doctors to decide on the best treatment for you. Staging relates to all cancers and not only cancer fo the penis.

* Stage 1 The cancer only affects the skin covering the penis, the head of the penis (glans) or the foreskin.

* Stage 2 The cancer has begun to spread into the shaft of the penis or into one of the lymph nodes in the groin.

* Stage 3 The cancer has spread deep into the shaft of the penis or to many lymph nodes in the groin.

* Stage 4 The cancer has spread to lymph nodes deep in the pelvis, or to other parts of the body.

If your cancer comes back after initial treatment, this is known as recurrent cancer.

Grading

Grading refers to the appearance of the cancer cells under the microscope and gives an idea of how quickly the cancer may develop. Low-grade means that the cancer cells look very like normal cells; they are usually slow-growing and are less likely to spread. In high-grade tumors, the cells look very abnormal, are likely to grow more quickly, and are more likely to spread.

Treatment

There are many types of treatment for penile cancer including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Surgery of the penis has now advanced to a stage now where it doesn't mean the loss of the penis. It is also possible to now reconstruct a penis that has been operated on.

The type of treatment that you are given will depend on a number of things, including the position and size of the cancer, whether or not it has spread, the grade of the cancer, and your general health.

Men with cancer of the penis should be treated in a specialist cancer center.

Surgery

Small, surface cancers that have not spread are treated by removing only the affected area. The cancer can be removed with conventional surgery, using laser or by freezing (cryotherapy). Cryotherapy is carried out with a cold probe, which freezes and kills the cancer cells.

If the cancer is affecting only the foreskin, it may be possible to treat it with circumcision alone.

All the above treatments can usually be given to you as an outpatient. They may be done under local or general anesthetic, depending on individual circumstances.

Wide local excision If the cancer has spread over a wider area, you will need to have an operation known as a wide local excision. This means removing the cancer with a border of healthy tissue around it. This border of healthy tissue is important as it reduces the risk of the cancer coming back in the future. The operation is done under general anesthetic and will involve a short stay in hospital.

Removing the penis (penectomy) This may be advised if the cancer is large and is covering a large area of the penis. Amputation may be partial (where part of the penis is removed) or total (removal of the whole penis). The operation most suitable for you depends on the position of the tumor. If the tumor is near the base of the penis, total amputation may be the only option.

The surgeon may also remove lymph nodes from the groin if there is evidence that cancer cells have spread to these nodes, or a possibility that they may have.

Re constructive surgery It is often possible to have a penis reconstructed after amputation. This requires another operation. The techniques that may be used include taking skin and muscle from your arm, and using this to make a new penis. Sometimes it is also possible for surgeons to reconnect some of the nerves, to provide sensation and the necessary blood flow to allow the reconstructed penis to become erect. This type of surgery is carried out by surgeons who have specialist experience, and you may need to travel to a specialist hospital to have the surgery done.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy treats cancer using high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells, while doing as little harm as possible to healthy cells. It can be used before or after surgery. Radiotherapy may also be given to treat symptoms, such as pain, if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, like the bones.

External radiotherapy is normally given as a series of short daily treatments in the hospital's radiotherapy department. High-energy x-rays are directed from a machine at the area of the cancer. The treatments are usually given from Monday to Friday, with a rest at the weekend. Each treatment takes 10-15 minutes. The number of treatments will depend on the type and size of the cancer, but the whole course of treatment for early cancer will usually last for up to six weeks. Your doctor will discuss the treatment and possible side effects with you.

Before each session of radiotherapy, the radiographer will position you carefully on the couch and make sure that you are comfortable. During your treatment you will be left alone in the room, but you will be able to talk to the radiographer who will be watching you carefully from the next room.

Radiotherapy is not painful, but you do have to lie still for a few minutes while your treatment is being given. The treatment will not make you radioactive and it is perfectly safe for you to be with other people, including children, after your treatment.

Radioactive implants Radiotherapy can be given using a radioactive implant. This is also known as brachytherapy. Under a general anesthetic, small radioactive wires are very carefully positioned in the affected area of the penis. The wires will have to be kept in place for 4-5 days and then be removed. This method of treatment is usually used for smaller cancers on the end of the penis (the glans). While the implant is in place, you need to stay in an isolated room in the hospital so that other people are not exposed unnecessarily to the radiation.

Side effects of radiotherapy

There are sometimes side effects from radiotherapy treatment to the penis. Towards the end of your treatment, the skin on your penis can become sore and may break down. Long-term, radiotherapy can cause thickening and stiffening of healthy tissues (fibrosis). In some men, this can result in narrowing of the tube that carries urine through the penis (the urethra) and so can cause difficulty in passing urine. If narrowing of the urethra does develop, it can usually be relieved by an operation to stretch (dilate) the area. This is done by passing a tube into the urethra and is performed under a general anesthetic.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of anti-cancer (cytotoxic) drugs to destroy cancer cells. It can be one drug or several drugs used together. It is not commonly used to treat cancer of the penis. Chemotherapy cream may sometimes be used to treat very small, early cancers that are confined to the foreskin and end of the penis (glans).

Chemotherapy may also be given as tablets, or by injection, into a vein for more advanced cancer. It may be given along with surgery or radiotherapy (or both).

Risks of Cancer Moles and how to see one

Cancer moles can be serious business. This disease takes an excessive amount of lives each year, most simply because the individuals and their physicians do not catch the cancer in time. Even skin cancer and the moles associated with skin cancer can be dangerous. It is extremely important to perform self checks and to be aware of signs that might indicate that you may have skin cancer. There are several different types of cancer and all of them have their own symptoms and signs. One of the most common types of cancer is skin cancer and it can be caused by being overly exposed to harmful UV rays.

There are items that you can look for if you suspect that you might have skin cancer. Physicians refer to the method of identifying if you have cancer moles as the ABCD method. The letters are a reminder of what to look for and to remind you of when you should visit your doctor to have the moles checked out. This is very important, as you do not want to be one of the victims of this type of cancer.

The first letter A stands for 'asymmetry.' Normally, a mole is round and symmetrical in shape. It is often when the mole begins to grow that it looks a little skewed or asymmetric. Always visit your doctor and let them know if you observe a change in the skin moles. The second letter B stands for 'border.' If the border of your moles looks jagged or irregular, instead of definite and strong, then this could be a sign of cancer. The letter C indicates another important aspect, 'color.' Unlike warts or other skin blemishes, these moles change in color suddenly, leaving you quite surprised. Lastly, the letter D stands for 'diameter.' Most cancerous moles will grow in size; hence, an increasingly larger diameter could alert you to see your physician.

If you think that the moles that you have could be cancer moles, then you will want to speak to a physician as soon as possible. You will also want to keep a close watch for the moles that might be cancerous if you are a lighter skinned individual or if other individuals in your family have had cancer. While anyone can be susceptible to this type of cancer, those who have a fair complexion or a family history of cancer are more likely to develop it.

Calcium and Disease

Coral Calcium and Disease...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Coral Calcium exhibited an inhibitory effect on the growth of cancer cells",

Yuji Hirota, Ph.D., Takashi Sugisaki, Ph.D., Medical Preventive Group Laboratory, Tokyo, Japan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bob Barefoot Coral Calcium information and research finds that some cancers have been linked to Calcium deficiency. In 1932 Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery that cancer was anaerobic: cancer occurs in the absence of free oxygen. As innocuous as this discovery might seem, it is actually a startling and significant finding worthy of a Nobel Prize. What it basically means is that cancer is caused by a lack of free oxygen in the body and therefore, whatever causes this to occur is the cause of all cancers.

In chemistry, alkali solutions (pH over 7.0) tend to absorb oxygen, while acids (pH under 7.0) tend to expel oxygen.  For example, a mild alkali can absorb over 100 times as much oxygen as a mild acid.  Therefore, when the body becomes acidic by dropping below pH 7.0 (note: all body fluids, except for stomach and urine, are supposed to be mildly alkaline at pH 7.4), oxygen is driven out of the body thereby, according to Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg, inducing cancer. Stomach fluids must remain acidic to digest food and urine must remain acidic to remove wastes from the body.  Blood is the exception.

Cancer is Caused by a Lack of Free Oxygen in the Body, therefore

Whatever Causes This to Occur is the Cause of All Cancers!

Blood must always remain at an alkaline pH 7.4 so that it can retain its oxygen.  When adequate mineral consumption is in the diet, the blood is supplied the crucial minerals required to maintain an alkaline pH of 7.4.  However when insufficient mineral consumption is in the diet, the body is forced to rob Peter (other body fluids) to pay Paul (the blood).  In doing so, it removes crucial minerals, such as calcium, from the saliva, spinal fluids, kidneys, liver, etc., in order to maintain the blood at pH 7.4.  This causes the de-mineralized fluids and organs to become acidic and therefore anaerobic, thus inducing not only cancer, but a host of other degenerative diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, etc..

Everyone knows that the human body is made up of 78% water by weight, and that water is hydrogen and oxygen gases. When nitrogen gas and carbon in the form of carbon dioxide and methane gases are added, the total gas in the body by weight becomes over 95%. Almost half of the remaining 5% that makes up the human body and controls all biological functions is the mineral calcium.

No other mineral is capable of performing as many biological functions as is calcium. Calcium is involved in almost every biological function. This amazing mineral provides the electrical energy for the heart to beat and for all muscle movement. It is the calcium ion that is responsible for feeding every cell. It does this by latching on to seven nutrient molecules and one water molecule and pulls them through the nutrient channel. It then detaches its load and returns to repeat the process. Another important biological job for calcium is DNA replication, which is crucial for maintaining youth and a healthy body. DNA replication is the basis for all body repair and can only occur on a substrate of calcium. Thus, low calcium means low body repair and premature aging. As important as all these and hundreds of other biological functions of calcium are to human health, none is more important than the job of pH control. Calcium to acid, is like water to a fire. Calcium quickly destroys oxygen robbing acid in the body fluids. Thus, the more calcium, the more oxygen, and therefore, the less cancer and other degenerative disease.

This information then begs the question, "How much calcium is necessary?"  The answer can readily be determined by examining the diet of millions of people around the world who consume over 100 times our Recommended Daily Allowance, RDA, and who suffer the side effects of living 40 years longer than we do, of aging at half the rate that we do, and of being devoid of cancer, heart disease, mental disorders, diabetes, arthritis and all other degenerative diseases. Almost all of these people, the Armenians, Azerbaijans and Georgians in Russian, the Tibetans, the Hunzas of Northern Pakistan, the Vilcabamba Indians in Ecuador, the Bamas in China and the Titicacas in Peru live at high altitudes above 8000 feet.  Their only source of water is melting glaciers, and the glacial water is so turbid and white with ground up rock that all of these cultures call the water "milk of the mountains".  Each quart of this water contains over 17,000 milligrams of calcium along with other minerals and 60 trace metals.  These cultures drink several quarts each day and the water fertilized crops are also loaded with calcium and other nutrients.  The only long living and disease free culture that does not live above an altitude of 8000 feet, is the Okinawans.

Millions of Okinawans live in the southern coral islands of Japan with the average life expectancy of 105 years, while mainland Japan is just 77 years.  The Okinawans live on islands made of coral reefs which are mainly calcium. The Okinawans discovered over 500 years ago, that feeding coral sand, produced from the weathering of the reefs, to the chickens and cows resulted in twice as many eggs and twice as much milk.  They also found that when the coral sand is used as a fertilizer, crops increase by as much as three fold.  When finally, 500 years ago, they began to consume the coral sand themselves, all of the under-utilized doctors were forced to leave the islands.  This was known in Japanese history as the Japanese Exodus.

The early European explorers discovered their secret and hauled shiploads of the calcium rich coral sands back to Europe.  In Madrid, Spain, the historic monument of the world’s first drugstore contains rows of shelves labeled "coral calcium from Okinawa Japan".  Today millions of people all over the world consume coral calcium, and as a result, there are millions of medical testimonials.

The phenomenon of preventing and reversing degenerative disease through the consumption of large amounts of mineral and vitamins did not go un-noticed by men of medicine. Hundreds of years ago European doctors were prescribing coral calcium and other nutrients to their patients.

In the 1950s, Dr. Carl Reich, M.D. discovered that his patients were able to cure themselves of almost all degenerative diseases by consuming several times the RDA of calcium, magnesium, vitamin-D and other nutrients. Dr. Reich was the first North American doctor to prescribe mega doses of minerals and vitamins to his patients and is considered by many to be the father of preventive medicine.  By the 1980s, Dr. Reich had cured thousands, but lost his license for explaining that the consumption of mineral nutrients, such as calcium, could prevent cancer and a host of other diseases. This concept was considered too simple to accept by the medical wisdom of the day.   However, by the late 1990s, other medical men of wisdom were also discovering that calcium supplements could indeed reverse cancer.

In the October 13, 1998 issue of the New York Times, an article appeared entitled "Calcium Takes Its Place As a Superstar of Nutrients".  The article reported that a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association declared that "increasing calcium induced normal development of the epithelia cells and might also prevent cancer in such organs as the breast, prostate and pancreas".  It also reported that the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published that virtually no major organ system escapes calcium’s influence and that a research team from the University of Southern California found that adding calcium to the diet lowered the blood pressure in 110 black teenagers.

The January 14, 1999 issue of the Phoenix Republic wrote in an article entitled "Calcium Reduces Tumors" that the New England Journal of Medicine reported that adding calcium to the diet can keep you from getting tumors in your large intestine.  Then the February, 1999 issue of the Readers Digest wrote in an article entitled "The ‘Superstar’ Nutrient" that the Journal of the American Medical Association published that "when the participants' consumption reached 1500 milligrams of calcium a day, cell growth in the colon improved toward normal (this means that the cancer was reversed)".  The Digest also reported that the Metabolic Bone Center at St. Luke's Hospital believes that "a chronic deficiency of calcium is largely responsible for premenstrual syndrome (PMS)" and that "a lot of women are avoiding the sun and their vitamin-D levels may be very low".  In the same article, the Digest reported that "in 1997 the large federally financed trial found that a diet containing 1200 milligrams of calcium significantly lowered blood pressure in adults".  Then the May 3, 1999 edition of US World News Report wrote in an article entitled "Calcium’s Powerful Mysterious Ways" that "Researchers are increasingly finding that the humble mineral calcium plays a major role in warding off major illnesses from high blood pressure to colon cancer" and that "You name the disease, and calcium is beginning to have a place there" (David McCarron, a nephrologist at Oregon Health Sciences University).  Unfortunately, most doctors have not heard the news that their own journals and major newspapers and magazines are reporting that natural supplements, especially calcium, . . .

Scientific evidence that calcium is the key to good and long health is overwhelming.  One does not have to be a rocket scientist to read simple articles in reputable newspapers, magazines and the doctor’s own journals that are all saying that disease can be cured by diet.  Also one can simply look at the millions of people around the world that never get sick and say, "We also want to drink some milk of the mountains".  Unfortunately, all of the milk of the mountains is consumed as fast as it is produced.  However, the Japanese could cure the world with their "milk of the oceans" known as coral calcium, the calcium factor of good health.

Benefits Of A Colon Cleanse Program

Colon detox is one of the most common natural living trends today. But many people are still confuse as to what are the benefits of a colon cleanse. Colon detox, is far from an uncontroversial practice. It is pretty new to our society, and hasn't really been completely studied or tested thoroughly, so the debate rages on. No matter, many actually found quite a bit of a relief from various ailments through the body cleasing.

One of the most famous benefits of a colon cleanse is the increased of energy. Many people believe that stagnant waste in our bodies stops us from absorbing the necessary nutrients that we require. Through colon cleanse, liver detox, and other complementary medical procedures, we can once again enjoy a renewed vitality similar to the feeling of abundant life that children have. There are many that have undergone the procedure, and this is an almost universal conclusion.

There is a medical theory popular among some alternative health doctors that diseases originate in the colon, and that through cleansing out stagnant toxins, you can halt the diseases at their roots. In that colon cleansing is much less expensive and painful than many of the most popular medical tests, if this claim is true it can be a great way of addressing mysterious or troublesome chronic illnesses such as colon diseases

The benefits of a colon cleanse are enhanced through fasting because the fast stops new toxins from entering the body, while the cleansing helps to flush out the ones that are there already. It allows the body to focus all of its energy on getting rid of the bad stuff, which is supposed to be a recharging and empowering process. Some people try it once and feel that it is not for them. Other people, however, seem to absolutely swear by the detox treatment and claim that it has made them healthier than they have been in years.

Are You Frightened By The Thought Of A Prostate Biopsy?

If you are a man you will almost certainly suffer from one prostate problem or another at some stage in your life. If you are under 50 years of age {this|then this} is likely to be a case of prostatitis (inflammation or infection) and, if you are over 50 years of age then it is also quite likely to be an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). Also, a fairly large number of older men will also experience prostate cancer.

The main difficulty with all of these prostate conditions is that they often show the same symptoms and you can, for example, be having difficulties passing water as a result of both inflammation of the prostate and an enlarged prostate. In a lot of cases these difficulties will not be accompanied by any symptoms at all at first and the danger danger here is that you may be developing prostate cancer without even being aware of it.

So, if you are suffering from any sort of prostate symptoms, you would be wise to talk to your doctor. Also, if you are older than 50 you ought to request your doctor for regular checks for prostate problems, even if you are not presently experiencing any prostate symptoms.

The two most often used tests for prostate problems are the digital rectal examination, which is a physical examination of the prostate gland carried out by your doctor to look for signs of any abnormalities, and the prostate specific antigen, or PSA, blood test that checks for a protein in the blood that is a marker for prostate cancer. However, when all is said and done, the only sure way to test for prostate cancer is to have a prostate biopsy exam.

The commonest form of prostate biopsy makes use of a transrectal ultrasound probe that guides the doctor to the prostate gland and then makes use of a hollow needle to collect a number of samples of tissue from different parts of the prostate gland for examination under the microscope. Another frequently used form of biopsy is the insertion of a biopsy needle through the skin between the anus and scrotum and into the prostate gland to once again take the necessary samples. In either case the samples will indicate the presence and degree of spread of any cancer, as well as just how aggressive the cancer is.

A prostate biopsy examination is not a particularly pleasant procedure producing a brief and uncomfortable sensation as each sample is taken, but it is luckily fairly short (taking roughly 15 minutes) and is often done in the doctor's office using a local anesthetic. Following your biopsy you are likely to be sore and will also be conscious of a small amount of blood in your urine and possibly some light bleeding from the rectum. Finally, it is common to experience small quantities of blood in your semen and this could be experienced for some weeks.

Ninety Percent Of Men Will Develop An Enlarged Prostate

Health problems inevitably begin to occur as we get older and one problem that you are very unlikely to escape if you live long enough is an enlarged prostate gland.

Commonly this problem is first seen in men once they have passed the age of 45, though it can occasionally be seen at earlier ages, and you have about a 50 percent chance of developing an enlarged prostate by the time you get to the age of 60.

Once passed 60 the chances of developing the problem increase significantly and, by the time you get to 80, your chances of suffering from a swollen prostate gland will be a staggering 90 percent.

The prostate, which sits just below the bladder and is a part of the male reproductive system, grows quickly during puberty and by the time a man reaches maturity it weighs roughly one ounce and is roughly the same size as a walnut. What is often not realized however is that it does not stop growing at this point and that the prostate goes on growing very slowly throughout the remainder of a man's life.

In middle age however cell growth characteristically begins to accelerate in one section of the prostate gland that partially surrounds the urethra, which carries urine from the bladder out of the body.

Initially this accelerated growth of cells, which are not cancerous, is reasonably slow and most men will experience no symptoms at all from it, or any symptoms will be so mild that they will be dismissed as simply a case of 'getting older'.

However, in time, as the prostate gland continues to enlarge, it will begin to squeeze the urethra interrupting the flow of urine from the bladder and symptoms will begin to appear. To start the symptoms will not be painful, or even particularly uncomfortable, but they will become more and more annoying as you start to experience difficulty in passing water, waking frequently in the night to go to the bathroom and possibly the upsetting tendency to continue to dribble urine even after you have visited the bathroom.

When you reach this point you ought to consult your physician not simply to get enlarged prostate gland treatment but also so that you can be screened for any underlying and developing signs of prostate cancer.
